Election 2020: States Accelerated Renewables Under Trump. Could a Biden Win Slow That?

In Utility Dive’s ongoing 2020 election analysis, Bracewell’s Policy Resolution Group Senior Principal Frank Maisano discussed concerns about federal “overreach” with regards to energy policies.

“One of the problems with the Clean Power Plan is it was a top-down approach,” said Maisano, referring to the Obama Administration’s plan to reduce carbon emissions from existing power plants. While the Clean Power Plan was intended to spur states to act on climate change, it ultimately did the opposite as conservative states sued to block the plan, slowing the adoption of renewable energy policy in those states.
