President Biden has lost no time in seeking to fulfill campaign promises pertaining to energy, the environment, and natural resources. Many of these are within the jurisdiction of the Department of the Interior, including a strong push for renewable energy, a new look at mineral leasing policies for public lands and offshore waters, and conservation of lands and waters. And the Administration’s renewed focus on environmental equity and tribal sovereignty will be important within the policy landscape. The historic choice of Rep. Debra Haaland as Secretary of the Interior augurs a fresh approach to all of these issues.
