Texas Bar Foundation Honors Jane Macon With Outstanding 50 Year Lawyer Award

SAN ANTONIO – Bracewell LLP’s Jane H. Macon is one of five lawyers who will be recognized with an Outstanding 50 Year Lawyer Award at the 2022 Texas Bar Foundation Annual Dinner on June 10 in Houston.

Born and raised in the small town of Kingsville, Texas, Macon has a deep connection to Texas. She earned a B.A. in international studies from The University of Texas at Austin and her J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law. Macon began her legal career working side by side with civil rights leaders in the Office of Economic Opportunity in Atlanta. In 1972, she joined the San Antonio City Attorney’s Office, where she litigated several First Amendment cases. Macon went on to become the first woman to serve as city attorney from 1997 to 1983. In 2000, she was appointed by President Bill Clinton to the Selective Service Appeal Board.

Macon entered private practice in 1983, continuing to work on economic development projects throughout San Antonio and the United States. She joined Bracewell in 2013 as a partner in the San Antonio office, representing cities, counties, states and countries on public finance and administrative law, public and private partnerships, real estate, civil litigation, and land use and development.

Macon has received numerous recognitions for her service and contributions to the legal profession, including the 2016 International Citizen of the Year Award from the World Affairs Council of San Antonio and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2020 Texas Legal Awards.

She is past-chair of Siebert Financial Corporation and an officer of Siebert Foundation.
