Bracewell Launches BWell Initiative

HOUSTON – On September 25, Bracewell LLP officially launched its new BWell program, a firm-wide initiative focused on promoting and sustaining healthy work-life integration for lawyers and staff. The program kicked off with a discussion about mental health and the legal profession led by Patrick Krill, principal and founder of Krill Strategies.

Bracewell’s BWell program is built on four pillars of well-being: mental, physical, financial and community.

Programming is offered on a quarterly basis to explore one of these topics in greater depth through guest speakers, substantive dialogue, group activities and well-being goals to inspire individuals to practice and incorporate well-being techniques in their daily lives.

Krill is an attorney, licensed and board-certified alcohol and drug counselor, author, advocate and thought leader. His groundbreaking work includes initiating and serving as the lead author of the first and only US study on the prevalence of lawyer addiction and mental health problems, a joint undertaking of the ABA Commission on Lawyer Assistance Programs and the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation.

Bracewell is among the approximately 135 law firms, corporate legal departments and law schools that have signed the ABA’s Well-Being Pledge, which requires signatories to recognize substance use and mental health issues as significant challenges for the legal profession and to support the ABA’s commitment to building a better future.
