About Michael

Michael Chibib focuses all aspects of intellectual property litigation, with an emphasis on district court and ITC patent litigation in the areas of semiconductors, telecommunications, electronics, software and energy. He has an active post-grant practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office’s Patent Trial and Appeal Board, and also provides IP portfolio counseling.

Prior to joining Bracewell, Mike served as vice president and general counsel of Active Power, Inc., a publicly traded company in the alternative energy space.

Slyce Acquisition — represented Slyce in multiple patent infringement matters involving mobile visual search technologies

Trilogy Enterprises, Inc —  represented Trilogy in trademark infringement litigation against Trilogy Education Services, Inc.

ESW Holdings, Inc. — represented ESW in five patent case against Roku involving streaming media technologies

Starbucks Corp. — defended Starbucks in a five-patent multi-jurisdiction litigation regarding encryption technology

Paradigm B.V. and its subsidiaries — defended a patent infringement claims relating to the company’s oil and gas exploration software*

Freescale Semiconductor — prosecuted patent infringement cases involving semiconductor circuits before the International Trade Commission

BMC Software — defended BMC in a multi-patent infringement litigation involving mainframe capacity management software*

NVIDIA Corp. — defended NVIDIA Corp. and its customers in a nine-patent ITC investigation involving SDRAM controller patents and the JEDEC standards

Flash memory controller and flash memory device companies — defended flash memory controller and flash memory device companies in a multi-patent ITC investigation involving flash memory patents. The ITC found in favor of clients and determined there was no violation by any of the respondents

3M Company — prosecuted patent infringement case on behalf of 3M Company involving lithium-ion battery cathode technology. Represented the patent holder in vital cathode technology that reduces the instances of lithium-ion batteries overheating. Asserted the patents against the three largest battery manufacturers and their customers, with all parties taking a license

Versata Software, Inc. — represented Versata Software in a patent litigation involving two patents relating to enterprise-wide goal management software

Starbucks Corp. — represented defendant Starbucks Corp. in multi-defendant patent litigation relating to interactive website technology

NVIDIA Corp. — represented NVIDIA Corp. as intervenor in a patent litigation involving  four patents directed to network interface technology

BMC Software — represented BMC Software in patent litigation involving network management software

Nokia Inc. and LG Electronics Mobilecomm U.S.A., Inc. — represented Nokia and LG Electronics Mobilecomm U.S.A. in litigation involving cell phone configuration technology

BMC Software and Motive, Inc. — represented two separate defendants, BMC Software and Motive, Inc., in patent litigation involving expert system software

Biofuel Enterprises, Inc. —  defended Biomedical Enterprises in patent infringement litigation involving medical device patents

Applied Materials, Inc. — represented Applied Materials in litigation involving defense of antitrust claims and assertion of patent infringement claims on 10 patents involving semiconductor fabrication equipment and processes

XM Satellite Radio — represented XM Satellite Radio in multi-jurisdiction litigation involving intelligent voice recognition and call center patents

XM Satellite Radio — represented XM Satellite Radio in litigation involving data transmission patents. The patents in suit were found invalid and XM was found not liable

Freescale Semiconductor — prosecuted patent infringement case on behalf of Freescale Semiconductor in a three-patent International Trade Commission investigation involving semiconductor circuits and packaging technologies
