About Mary

Mary Buzak provides general counsel services to clients regarding various matters, including real estate transactions, development agreements, contracting and procurements, and federal grants. Prior to joining Bracewell, Mary held positions in the City of Houston Legal Department, City of Cincinnati Solicitor's Office, Texas Legislative Council and the US Department of Labor. She most recently served as a senior assistant city attorney for the City of Houston, where her practice focused on the sale and lease of municipal property, economic development incentives, tax increment reinvestment zones, and parks and green space.

Recent Notable Matters

City of Houston, Texas — bond counsel in connection with the August 2021 financing of a multi-terminal baggage handling system at the Houston Airport System of approximately $289 million of airport special facilities debt secured by and payable from various leases with United Airlines, Inc.

Midtown Redevelopment Authority — counsel in connection with a public/private partnership agreement regarding the funding of certain public infrastructure, including plazas, streetscape and sidewalk improvements, and elements of a parking garage with ground-floor retail space associated with the development of an innovation district in Midtown Houston 

Public Entity — over $33 million sale of surplus property for mixed-use developments*

Public Entity — acquisition, lease, and sale of undeveloped property for the construction of an H-E-B supermarket*

Public Entity — complex multi-party construction and development agreements involving millions of dollars in private investment to fund major capital improvements to a public park and golf course*

Public Entity — lease of property located at an expansion facility for the development of electrical resiliency services for the facility*

Public Entity — leases of downtown office space and emergency shelters for employees and residents displaced by Hurricane Harvey*
