SAN ANTONIO – The Mexican American Bar Association of San Antonio will present the Legal Profession Award to William T. Avila, a public finance partner in Bracewell LLP’s San Antonio’s office, at its annual holiday awards gala on December 17. The award recognizes the many contributions that Avila has made both inside and outside the legal community, as well as his commitment to excellence, professionalism and integrity.
Over the course of his career, Avila has closed approximately $50 billion in public finance transactions for cities, counties, school districts, junior college districts, public and private college and universities, private and charter schools, hospital districts and hospitals, defense base closure authorities and housing authorities, including most recently several housing projects in the San Antonio, El Paso, Austin, Houston, McAllen, Edinburg, Raymondville and Uvalde communities and along every community along the Texas-Mexico border area. He was the first Mexican American member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, and he continues to serve as a champion for Hispanics in law, finance and public policy.
Avila has served and continues to serve on numerous boards, including the Texas Kidney Foundation, Hot Wells Conservancy, Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas Finance Committee, Northside ISD Advocacy Network, St. Mary’s University Neighborhood Development Corporation, Our Lady of the Lake University Development Office Board, University of Notre Dame Undergraduate Admissions Office, YMCA and CYO youth baseball, football, track, basketball, soccer and track coach and the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.
