Frank Maisano, a senior principal in Bracewell’s Policy Resolution Group, spoke with POLITICO about why attendance for the global climate summit COP29 in Azerbaijan could be smaller than in past years.

“People don’t trust that it’s going to be as good,” said Maisano. “People were really focused on Dubai last time. I don’t think they’re as focused on Azerbaijan.”

Skepticism over Azerbaijan’s oil-autocratic regime and its ability to oversee a quality conference, logistical concerns and the prospect of Donald Trump winning the US presidential election just days before the November summit begins are some of the major concerns why businesses are planning to either skip or send smaller delegations to this year’s climate summit.
