Scott Segal, co-chair of Bracewell’s Policy Resolution Group, discussed with Agenda the challenges boards are facing with the ever-growing divide on social and political issues.
Boards and members of the C-suite need to have “eyes and ears in Washington, DC, and in their state capitals,” said Segal.
“That’s the only way to stay ahead,” he said. “You can’t always win, but you can be informed.”
Segal added that regardless of who wins in November, companies should be planning to engage with their teams in DC and state capitals to explore what is possible for both legislation and regulation, and “that’s true whether we’re talking taxes or environment or energy or trade.”
