Partner Hans Dyke spoke with Law360 Pulse about rejoining Bracewell and his time as general counsel of Sol Systems.
Dyke said he wanted to return to Bracewell because of the firm’s reputation for energy work and his prior working relationship with the partners in the practice area.
“Bracewell, frankly, is the perfect firm for my practice. It’s one of the best energy and infrastructure and the oldest law firms in the country, if not the world, for this kind of thing,” Dyke said.
He added that his practice spans “virtually all of the fuel sources,” and he works on the range of energy products associated with the industry.
“Being in private practice allows me to get back to doing all of it,” Dyke said. “It’s fun, it’s dynamic, you know, [you] represent a bunch of different clients. This is a pretty exciting time in this space.”
While at Bracewell for the first time, Dyke said he jumped at the chance to work for Sol Systems because it was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.
“It was an incredible three and a half years,” Dyke said. “[I’ll] continue to work with the company,”
Dyke, who has been helping clients bring their renewable-energy visions to life for almost 20 years, said that seeing those creations materialize was one of the most-rewarding aspects of his practice.
“This stuff is hard, financing projects, developing projects,” Dyke said. “You start with a field. I mean, truly, whether you’re building a conventional gas fire plant or a wind farm, or solar farm, you’re starting with a field. … My clients build things, they finance projects, they own assets, sell assets, so you’re involved with that, you can see it.”
