The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) filed more than two dozen enforcement actions last month, a surge in enforcement that followed a sudden drop in the early weeks of the second Trump administration. According to PHMSA, filings saw a downtick because administration officials were updating the agency’s enforcement process to bolster due process protections for accused companies.
Bracewell’s Lauren Clegg, a former PHMSA attorney, told Politico that the changes are a result of years of discussions.
“Ultimately, these policy improvements should foster more productive and efficient discussions between the Agency and pipeline operators, resulting in better outcomes for the public,” Clegg said.
