Industry groups and environmentalists are opposing the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) reported plans to close its popular Energy Star program that promotes efficient home appliances and buildings. Multiple news reports say EPA is planning to eliminate the Energy Star program, citing remarks from Trump administration officials during a May 5 meeting with air office staff.

Bracewell’s Frank Maisano told Inside EPA that Energy Star has “widespread support” including from Congress dating back to the 1990s. He expects “headwinds as the budget process goes forward.”

He shared a March 20 letter to EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin from large industry trade associations including the US Chamber of Commerce urging him to continue Energy Star.
