LONDON – Two transactions on which Bracewell (UK) LLP played a leading role have been shortlisted at the 2023 FT Innovative Lawyers Europe Awards, which will be held at London’s Natural History Museum on September 21.

In the “Innovative Lawyers in Energy Security and Transition” category, Financial Times recognized Bracewell for its representation of the lenders on the acquisition financing of Lekela Power B.V. The Lekela Power acquisition represents the largest M&A transaction for a portfolio of operating renewable assets across Africa. The transaction is notable for its use of a unique and innovative financing that combined project, acquisition and structurally subordinated holdco finance structures with South African rand and dollar denominated debt.

In the same category, Bracewell was recognized for its role advising Vårgrønn in connection with the closing of its £500m holdco debt platform, by way of private placement notes with leading institutional investors, notwithstanding the challenging macro-economic conditions for sterling in 2022. These proceeds are used to fund the sponsors construction equity for the Dogger Bank project, which is currently Europe’s largest infrastructure project in construction and will provide power for six million UK households when operational.

The awards celebrate the best in innovation from law firms and in-house legal teams in the Europe region. They are recognising leaders in digital innovation, strategic advice, talent management and driving positive change in the profession.
