Bracewell’s Jeff Holmstead told Law360 that President-elect Donald Trump’s new administration will need to balance how much pressure it’s willing to put on Environmental Protection Agency employees while maintaining a focus on successfully executing its policy aims and helping businesses that rely on a well-functioning agency.
“Industry supporters are much more interested in having an agency that can reform some of these regulatory programs,” Holmstead said. “And if it looks like the Trump administration is at war with the career staff, it makes it much harder to do that.”
Holmstead added that political appointees will depend on the career staff to help write legally defensible rules and regulations.
