In Their Words: What Attys Expect if Garland Becomes AG

Bracewell’s Stephen Braga provided his thoughts to Law360 on the anticipated nomination of DC Circuit Judge Merrick Garland as US attorney general under President-elect Joe Biden.

“Judge Merrick Garland’s priorities as attorney general will be driven by the world as he finds it upon taking office. It is a chaotic world indeed. Recent events fuel specific concerns about cybersecurity, domestic hate groups, political corruption, racial fairness in policing, international terrorism, civil rights and government program fraud. One can accordingly expect Department of Justice initiatives in these areas. In addition, the primacy of the rule of law is in major need of restoration, and one can be sure, given his background, that AG Garland will fully and fairly enforce the nation’s laws toward equal justice for all.”
