Paul Shechtman Honored as National Law Journal Criminal Law Trailblazer

NEW YORK The National Law Journal named Paul Shechtman, a partner in Bracewell LLP’s New York office, to its 2020 list of Criminal Law Trailblazers. Shechtman is one of 26 lawyers recognized in a special NLJ supplement as agents of change in criminal law.

With a career in government service and private practice that spans more than 30 years, Shechtman is a highly regarded white collar and criminal defense lawyer. His work has clarified law and set precedents that continue to shape the legal and political landscape in New York and beyond.

According to NLJ, Shechtman gained acclaim as a defense attorney by successfully representing a former broker accused of enabling a hedge fund manager to make illegal trades with mutual funds. Shechtman’s client received an acquittal on 28 of the 32 counts brought by the New York State Attorney General’s Office, and a hung jury on the remaining counts, which were later dismissed. “That gave me the reputation as someone who could try a case,” said Shecthman.
