National Institute for Lobbying & Ethics Honors PRG Principal John Lee as a 2020 Top Lobbyist

WASHINGTON, DC – The National Institute for Lobbying & Ethics has recognized John Lee, a principal in Bracewell LLP’s Policy Resolution Group, as a 2020 Top Lobbyists in the Large Firm category. Lee was among a select group of 75 lobbyists and government affairs professionals who were nominated by their clients or colleagues for playing a leading role in significant legislative successes in 2020; serving as an innovator; giving back to the community through charity or pro bono work; and being held in high regard by their clients.

Lee guides corporations, trade associations, industry coalitions and nonprofit organizations through the legislative and regulatory aspects of government advocacy campaigns. Since 2018, he has helped lead the Policy Resolution Group’s pro bono representation of The Trevor Project in its efforts to establish and implement 9-8-8 as the National Suicide Hotline and to ensure that LGBTQ youth, an acutely at-risk population, can access specialized services. On October 17, 2020, President Trump signed the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act, which will make 9-8-8 the number to reach the National Suicide Prevention Hotline starting in 2022. This was the first bill in US history that is specifically LGBTQ-inclusive to unanimously pass both houses of Congress.

“From start to finish, John led the charge in fighting for recognition of the need to improve and prioritize LGBTQ youth mental health, said Sam Brinton, vice president of advocacy and government affairs at The Trevor Project. “Beyond my wildest dreams, John was able to secure FCC and Congressional attention that will now create meaningful change that in turn will save hundreds of thousands of lives. Without his forward thinking, grit, knowledge of government and caring for others, this would not have happened.”
