HOUSTON – Bracewell & Giuliani LLP Partner and Texas State Representative Morgan D. Meyer was honored with the Legislative Hero Award for his work on legislation that assisted pro bono efforts in Texas. He was presented with the award by Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Nathan Hecht at The Texas Access to Justice Foundation luncheon on Monday, October 26, 2015.
One major accomplishment from this year was his work as co-author of Texas House Bill 1079 that expands funding for basic civil legal services for those in need. The Bill was passed during the 84th Legislative session.
“I am so honored to receive this award,” said Meyer. “I believe as a lawyer and a state representative that all people should have access to justice. Throughout my legal career I have made pro bono work a priority, and I am proud to have contributed to the 1079 Bill that helps provide legal services to Texans in need.”
Meyer is active in the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program and Lawyers Serving Warriors Program. At Bracewell, he represents and counsels business clients in complex commercial litigation and appeals. As a member of the Texas House of Representatives, he represents House District 108, which includes Dallas, Highland Park and University Park, Texas.
Launched by The Texas Access to Justice Commission and The Texas Access to Justice Foundation, the Legislative Hero Award program annually recognizes legislators who have advanced access to justice in Texas by assisting with appropriation of funds, and other activities related to enhancing legal aide in the state.
