WASHINGTON, DC — Bracewell LLP’s Stephen J. Hug was one of three winners in the energy and natural resources category at the Rising Stars Awards Americas held on January 28. He was among 110 lawyers under the age of 40 from across North America and Latin America who were recognized for their efforts and achievements in their respective practice areas.
Hug represents clients in matters related to federal and state regulatory policies, regulations and rules applicable to the electric and renewable power industries. He has experience with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the Federal Power Act (FPA), including FERC enforcement and compliance, wholesale power trading, centralized energy and capacity markets, transmission and interconnection matters and representation of utilities in contested proceedings before FERC. He also has experience with state regulatory matters, state net metering programs, interconnection issues and retail choice programs.
Hug also regularly represents renewable developers, energy storage companies, and other clients in negotiating commercial agreements related to the sale of energy, capacity, and renewable energy certificates as well as agreements providing for the use of energy storage resources to defer the need for transmission and distribution upgrades.
