End in Sight for Puerto Rico’s Debt Restructuring Saga

Bracewell’s Fernando Rodriguez Marin recently spoke with IFLR on if Puerto Rico’s restructuring efforts could bolster economic growth and infrastructure investment enough to make people return to the island.

Whether the island’s fortunes will reverse is unclear, according to Rodriguez Marin, but the hope is that better economic footing will stem continuing population loss.

“Everybody’s now very excited about the increased amount of commitment of funds from the federal government to the Commonwealth,” he said. “The hope is that the renewed construction, the renewed investment into the country would actually make people come back or decide not to leave or invest more on studying there and staying.”
