Bracewell Mourns the Passing of Patrick C. Oxford

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that Bracewell announces the passing of Patrick C. Oxford, who died peacefully at home on February 13.

Patrick had a tremendous impact on Bracewell, playing an influential role in the firm’s strategic growth and serving as a mentor to generations of Bracewell lawyers. Patrick joined Bracewell in 1967 after graduating with honors from The University of Texas School of Law, where he was managing editor of the Texas Law Review and a member of the Friar Society. He served as managing partner of the firm from 2001 to 2008 and served as chairman until his retirement in 2020.

While Patrick always regarded Bracewell as his professional home, he was also a dedicated civic leader. From 1997 to 2003, he served on the Board of Regents of the University of Texas System and chaired its Committee on Health Affairs, which oversees the six major health institutions that are part of the University of Texas System. He also served as a director of M.D. Anderson Services Corp., the outreach arm of the leading cancer hospital in the United States, and as a member of the Executive Committee leading M.D. Anderson’s Board of Visitors. In addition, Patrick served as the vice chairman of Texas Medical Center, Inc., board chairman of BioHouston, chairman and board member emeritus of the Greater Houston Partnership, an advisory board member of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research at Rice University, and as a board member of the Kinder Institute for Constitutional Democracy at the University of Missouri.

Patrick was also active in local, state and national politics, chairing the campaigns for five office holders and playing a leading role in three presidential campaigns.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Patrick’s family. He touched the lives of many individuals over the years, leaving an indelible mark on the firm, city and state for which he cared deeply and loyally served for decades.
