Bracewell & Giuliani’s Day of Service 2014

Bracewell & Giuliani LLP held its third annual Day of Service sponsored by the firm’s Associate Inclusion Committee. Bracewell employees and their families were invited to participate in giving back to their respective communities by lending support, resources and services to charitable organizations. The firm-wide events were held throughout the month of January in support of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service.

The itinerary for each office’s Day of Service is below.

Austin – Capital Area Food Bank – January 25
The CAFB provides food and grocery products to more than 300 Partner Agencies in 21 Central Texas counties. In Fiscal Year 2011-12, CAFB provided more than 22 million pounds of food. The service area covers 19,064 square miles in Central Texas. Bracewell volunteers inspected and sorted food donated by local retailers.

Connecticut – HARC – January 24
HARC helps people with intellectual disabilities and their families enjoy lives of quality, inclusion and dignity by providing support, education and advocacy. HARC provides a full array of services throughout the lifespan of an individual. Bracewell volunteers assisted with the adult enrichment program, doing arts and crafts and other group engagement activities.

Dallas – Dallas LIFE Kid’s Time and Hope’s Door Resale Store – January 25

Dallas LIFE is a charitable non-profit organization designed to meet the needs of homeless men, women, children and families in the Dallas metroplex.  Bracewell volunteers led a group of children in story time and an arts and crafts activity. 

Hope’s Door offers safety, shelter, healing, and hope to individuals and families affected by domestic violence.  The Resale Store is open to Hope’s Door clients, through the use of vouchers, and the general public.  Bracewell volunteers sorted donations and assisted with store operations.

Houston – Houston Food Bank – January 25
The Houston Food Bank is the nation’s largest feeding America food bank and serves as a source of food for hunger relief charities in 18 southeast Texas counties. Its network of 500 food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers and other agencies, feeding a total of 137,000 people each week, providing 50 million nutritious meals annually. Bracewell’s project involved inspecting and sorting food donated by local retailers.

New York – Tunnel To Towers Foundation– January 25
One of Tunnel To Towers’ initiatives is to help restore the lives of families devastated by Hurricane Sandy. The Foundation set up a relief center where disaster victims received essential food items and supplies to restore their lives. The Foundation has worked tirelessly with thousands of volunteers to gut houses, provide clean up, and restore damaged homes.  Bracewell volunteers assisted families in Staten Island who were hit hard by Hurricane Sandy last year by helping rebuild homes.

San Antonio – Haven for Hope – January 25
Haven for Hope offers a place of hope and new beginnings by providing, coordinating, and delivering an efficient system of care for people experiencing homelessness in Bexar County.  Haven for Hope is the city’s largest center for homeless people. Bracewell volunteers assisted by preparing and serving lunch.

Seattle – Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission – January 25
Seattle's Union Gospel Mission provides food, shelter, recovery and care to hurting and homeless people in the greater Seattle area. Every day 2,000 meals are served to men, women and children and every night 241 people fill the emergency shelters. Bracewell volunteers worked the front desk, prepped, prepared, and served a hot lunch.

Washington, D.C. –The Capital Area Food Bank – postponed to February 19 due to weather
The CAFB feeds those suffering from hunger in the Washington metro area by acquiring food and distributing it through its network of 500 partner agencies; and educating, empowering and enlightening the community about the issues of hunger and nutrition. CAFB  serves nearly 500,000 people in the region distributing 37.5 million meals annually. Bracewell volunteers inspected, sorted and packed food donations.
