Bracewell and Pier 1 Imports Win Business Litigation of the Year Award at 2019 Dallas-Fort Worth Corporate Counsel Awards

DALLAS — The Texas Lawbook and the Dallas-Fort Worth Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel honored Bracewell LLP and Pier 1 Imports, Inc. with the Business Litigation of the Year Award at the 2019 Outstanding Corporate Counsel Awards. This is the latest in a series of awards won by Bracewell’s litigation team, including most recently Commercial Litigation Firm of the Year at the inaugural Chambers USA-Texas Awards.

Stephen B. Crain, Bradley J. Benoit and Amy Parker Beeson worked with Pier 1’s Mike Carter, Ray McKown and Bob Bostrom in developing a winning strategy in defending the retailer against a federal securities class-action lawsuit. The legal team prevailed in two rounds of motion to dismiss proceedings. In August 2019, the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit affirmed the lower court’s dismissal.

Among various twists and turns, The Texas Lawbook notes  that two things remained constant in the litigation: “Pier 1’s stellar outside legal team at Bracewell and the company’s dogged determination to prove to the world that it had committed no wrong doing.”
