Bracewell’s Star of Hope Transaction Named Community Impact Winner at the Houston Business Journal’s 2018 Landmark Awards

HOUSTON – Bracewell LLP is pleased to announce that the firm’s Star of Hope Cornerstone Community® real estate transaction was selected winner in the Community Impact category at the Houston Business Journal’s 2018 Landmark Awards. The announcement was made at an awards ceremony in Houston on April 19, 2018.

The Landmark Awards annually recognize commercial real estate projects and developments at the forefront of Houston’s landscape. The Community Impact category honors a development that positively and uniquely impacts the Houston area.

Cornerstone Community® is a building block for the Star of Hope’s mission to support the ever-present population of homeless in the Houston area. Bracewell’s role was development counsel to Star of Hope, which included all aspects of the new campus’ development, including land acquisition, land sales, leases, joint ventures, financing, bank loans and intellectual property. The project represented a significant undertaking. The campus is a 48-acre complex that provides housing, medical and social services for the homeless and single-parent families. This new transformational campus contains housing units that can occupy up to 160 single women and 130 families.

The complex consists of seven buildings and expands Star of Hope’s capacity for caring for homeless families, including a chapel, day care facility, computer lab and a park. The campus also offers long-term housing options for members that find gainful employment and graduate from the community’s transitional living services. The project is a result of more than five years of planning and will fulfill Star of Hope’s vision for new and broader services to the more than 3,000 homeless women and their family members it serves each year.

Bracewell’s lead on this project was Partner Aaron P. Roffwarg, chair of the firm’s real estate department. 

Bracewell continues to help Star of Hope expand its Cornerstone Community®, including future projects to develop surrounding land on the site to provide residents with various other needed services for this community environment.
