Trump Moves to Let States Regulate Coal Plant Emissions
On August 21, 2018, the Trump administration announced plans to replace the Clean Power Plan with the long-anticipated Affordable Clean Energy rule, which would give individual states more authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from coal-fired power plants.
Scott Segal, a partner in Bracewell’s Washington, DC office and co-chair of the firm’s Policy Resolution Group, discussed the potential impact with NPR. He noted that it’s “beneficial for industry to have federal regulation on greenhouse gases.” Without regulations, he adds, “companies would be more vulnerable to a growing number of climate change-related lawsuits.”
