New York Law Journal Presents Bracewell White Collar Defense Partner Paul Shechtman with Lifetime Achievement Award

NEW YORK – Bracewell LLP is pleased to announce that Paul Shechtman, a partner in the firm’s white collar defense practice, has been named a 2017 Lifetime Achievement honoree by the New York Law Journal for his accomplishments as a member of the New York legal community. Shechtman is among seven prominent lawyers chosen to receive the award.

In his 30 years in government service and private practice, Shechtman’s work has clarified law and set important precedents in New York.  He served as the director of criminal justice under former New York Governor George Pataki, where he negotiated criminal justice legislation on behalf of the governor.  He previously served as counsel to District Attorney Robert Morgenthau in New York County and served two stints as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Southern District of New York. He represented Governor Pataki in Pataki v. Silver in the New York Court of Appeals, which set a landmark precedent that gave the Governor broad budgetary powers.  Paul also teaches at Columbia Law School, where he has won awards for best teaching, and writes periodically for the Law Journal.

Shechtman currently represents clients in federal and state criminal regulatory matters. His experience includes high-profile cases involving antitrust law, health care fraud, insider trading, political corruption and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

He will be recognized in an upcoming special edition of the New York Law Journal and honored at a celebration dinner on October 17, 2017 in New York City.
