Manafort’s 4-Year Sentence Could Grow at Hearing on Wednesday

Bracewell’s Stephen Braga, chair the firm’s national white collar defense practice, recently discussed Paul Manafort’s sentencing with Bloomberg.

Manafort, who could have been sentenced to as long as 24 years in prison last week, instead was given less than four years from a sympathetic federal judge in Alexandria, Virginia.

On Wednesday, March 13, Manafort faced another sentencing, this time before a federal judge in the District of Columbia.

“This is going to turn out as almost an object lesson in how two different judges can look at a defendant very differently,” said Braga, who’s had cases before both Judge T.S. Ellis III in Virginia and Judge Amy Berman Jackson in Washington.
