Bracewell’s Barbara Jones Honored by the Federal Bar Council with the Emory Buckner Award for Outstanding Public Service

NEW YORK – Bracewell LLP Partner Honorable Barbara S. Jones, former United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York, will be presented with the prestigious Emory Buckner Award for Outstanding Public Service by the Federal Bar Council at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City on November 23, 2016.

Beginning in 1962, the Federal Bar Council established an annual award for outstanding public service named after Emory R. Buckner. Buckner was a prominent lawyer who served as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York (1925-1927), where he gained a reputation as one of the greatest prosecutors in American history. The Emory Buckner Award for Outstanding Public Service is currently presented at the Federal Bar Council’s annual Thanksgiving Luncheon.

Hon. Jones served as a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York for 17 years. She presided over cases relating to accounting and securities fraud, antitrust, fraud and corruption involving city contracts and federal loan programs, labor racketeering and terrorism. Hon. Jones also spent more than 20 years as a prosecutor. Prior to her nomination to the bench in 1995, she was the Chief Assistant to Robert M. Morgenthau, then the District Attorney of New York County. Hon. Jones began her career as a special attorney in the Honors Program of the U.S. Department of Justice assigned to the organized crime unit of the Criminal Division.
